ISLAMABAD (S Awan) META has released details of safety measures for safe use of social media by children and youth in Pakistan. Meta officials say they support effective regulation of social media platforms in Pakistan rather than restrictions and are ready to work with the government of Pakistan in this regard.
According to Meta officials, all users under the age of 18 on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Threads in Pakistan have been automatically added to Ten accounts. Privacy for these accounts is enabled by default, while strangers are not allowed to contact young users.
According to Meta, the content shown to young people is arranged according to the global 13 plus rating to provide them with an age-appropriate and safe digital environment. Parents don't need to take any extra steps to secure their children's accounts, but they do have the option to relax some security settings.
META officials say they support the government's stance in rejecting restrictions on social media in Pakistan. Appropriate regulation is essential to ensure age-appropriate digital experiences for children and young people, which can be made a standard for the entire social media industry.
According to META officials, the main challenge now is to create awareness among parents about online safety and provide them with proper guidance regarding children's digital activities. Meta remains committed to a secure digital future for children in Pakistan.
