The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has strongly denied a notification circulating on social media regarding the ban on the popular video sharing app 'Tik Tok', terming it as 'false and misleading'. The PTA, in an explanatory statement on its Facebook account, said that no such notification has been issued by the authority and no new ban has been imposed on Tik Tok. The PTA has instructed the citizens and consumers not to listen to or share unconfirmed and rumour-based information at all. The authority further said that any kind of verified information should be obtained only from PTA's official website and verified social media handles. It should be noted that in the past Tik Tok has been temporarily banned several times in Pakistan due to complaints of 'immoral content'. It was first blocked in October 2020, which was restored after 10 days on assurances from the administration. Bans were subsequently imposed by the courts and the PTA in March, June and July 2021, but the ban was lifted in November 2021 after TikTok management assured them of better monitoring of content.
