PTI social media activist Sanam Javed, imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail, approached the court for divorce from her husband Atiq Riaz due to lack of 'mental harmony' and 'differences'. According to the text of the claim, differences and misunderstandings arose between Sanam Javed and her husband due to lack of mental harmony, which increased with the passage of time. It has been stated in the petition that the plaintiff has now developed a strong aversion to marital relationship and she is not willing to live with her husband any more. According to them, she cannot continue married life with her husband while living within the limits set by Allah, so a degree of dissolution of marriage should be issued on the basis of Khula. According to the petition, Sanam Javed and Atiq Riaz were married on 22 September 2009 and have 2 children. It has been stated in the claim that both the parties are residents of Lahore, the plaintiff is lodged in Kot Lakhpat Jail and the dispute also arose in Lahore, therefore the Family Court of Lahore has the jurisdiction to try the case. In the claim filed through the mediation of barrister Khadija Siddiqui, Sanam Javed has requested the court to issue a decree of divorce in her favor. The family court has issued a notice for November 25 seeking a response from her husband. It should be noted that Sanam Javed is serving sentence in Kot Lakhpat Jail in May 9 case. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison on August 11, 2025 by the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court. Her husband Atiq Riaz has also been on bail in several cases. On August 28, he was detained near Kot Lakhpat Jail along with Sanam Javed and arrested in the Uzma Bukhari fake video scam case, but later released on bail.
